Heron Rookery Tour
Heron babies are a noisy lot! One day while paddling along, I heard the strangest cacophony and as I paddled into a “bayou” in a floodplain, I looked overhead and was surprised to find 50 to 75 nests of Heron and their babies! It is an amazing area and there you will witness Great Blue Herons on their nests feeding their babies and just making a general ruckus! There may also be Great White Egrets as well.
Other wildlife often seen in the area is deer, otter, mink, waterfowl, turkeys and owls. Bring your camera and binoculars.
Your tour includes snacks and beverage on the water, kayak and necessary gear, and instruction to safely enter and exit your boat and basic paddling strokes. Be aware that “bathroom” facilities are non-existent and shore landing areas are limited. Bladder capacity should be at least 3 hours.
In order to safeguard the birds and the ecosystem, tour groups will be limited in size and we will do nothing to harass the birds. We may be paddling UNDER the herons so a HEADCOVERING is necessary!
Cost: $130 including all equipment
